Kerosene lantern with circular glass set in white portholes on 3 sides. The fourth side has a hinged door that open to access the kerosene burner.
Once used for relaying signals and inspecting trains. Made from a metal cage with a translucent globe to protect the light, these lanterns were originally lit with with kerosene. Often referred to as a trainman’s lantern, conductor’s lantern or inspector’s lantern, these vintage lamps were used to inspect trains in the terminal and train yard.
